ORIGINS
From Coaching to Cutting-Edge Apparel
Mauna began as a passion project between a triathlete, his wife, and a lifelong friend—first as a global coaching platform, then as Team Mauna, and finally as a solution to the lack of fair pricing, customization, and fast turnarounds in performance apparel. By 2022, after countless tests with athletes from amateurs to pros, Mauna Apparel was born to design and produce world-class triathlon, cycling, and running gear for athletes everywhere.
2019
Launched Mauna Endurance, a global online coaching platform connecting athletes and coaches.
2020
Provided stability and income for athletes and coaches during the pandemic.
2021
Formed Team Mauna, a worldwide triathlon community.
2022
Pivoted to apparel after spotting three big gaps—fair pricing, customization, quick turnarounds—and fell in love with design and production.
Today, Mauna Apparel creates world-class gear for athletes everywhere and a Team Mauna that’s grown from 50 to over 600 members.
The Meaning Of Mauna
Mauna Kea, the majestic mountain of Hawai‘i’s Big Island, lends its name to our brand—where each year the land and people welcome the world’s top triathletes to take on the race that defines the pinnacle of endurance sport.
Mauna means mountain in Hawaiian and other Polynesian languages, symbolizing the challenge every endurance athlete seeks:
the climb, the struggle, the summit.

We believe athletes deserve world-class gear without the markup. Mauna never cuts corners on quality or fair manufacturing practices—and we don’t inflate prices to create fake sales. Unlike other brands, we skip the typical event-based discount windows. Any “Sale” you see on our site is simply overstock, a result of being a young brand still fine-tuning our ordering and inventory.
Factory-Direct Model: We keep prices low by avoiding the traditional supply chain, including sourcing agents and warehousing. Cutting out middlemen lets us offer top-performance apparel at a fair cost.
True Discounts Only: 10% referral codes go exclusively to our professional athletes and to clubs/teams ordering Mauna Custom Gear. Team Mauna members receive a 15% discount. That’s it.
